Yuen began her career in science by studying and doing research in marine ecology. This was followed by a gap during which she started a family, before returning to the workforce as an intellectual property and contracts administrator at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. Yuen is an ethnic Chinese woman with a keen interest in gender equity in science, and after attending several events and seminars concerning the topic of ‘Women in STEM’, noticed that women of colour were severely under-represented, both in the audience and on stage. She seeks to find out how to address this imbalance.
