Simone Apel

Researcher Developer, University of Northampton

Simone Apel has been leading and managing the University of Northampton’s skills development programme for postgraduate researchers and early career researchers since 2012. The programme includes workshops, annual events and two 4-day inductions for PGRs. Simone has also spent the last 9 months organising a professorial development programme for associate professors at UoN. She has delivered new initiatives at UoN, including Images of Research and 3-Minute Thesis competitions, and a coaching programme for PGRs. Simone has regularly worked with Midlands universities to collaborate on skills programmes and other development initiatives for PGRs and plays an active role in the Midlands Researcher Development Forum (MRDF), a collaborative, information/practice-sharing group in the Midlands for professionals developing researchers. Simone is a qualified librarian with two postgraduate qualifications and a commercial background, running a desk research and training business from 2001 to 2012.
