- ARMA’s Annual General Meeting takes place on Tuesday morning at 08:15 before the Congress begins. Join us for bacon rolls and coffee before short presentations by ARMA’s Chair, Deputy Chair and Treasurer. Find out what’s been happening over the past year and what the plans are for the future! - Thinkwrite lunchtime symposium: Tackling Complex Documents & Bid Writing – the ThinkWrite approach, from Dr Pete Moore. - Elsevier lunchtime symposium: Grand Challenges Tuesday lunchtime, 12:45-14:00, Platform 5, with complimentary lunch provided. Sponsored by Elsevier. In this lunchtime symposium, you will have the opportunity to hear from a Funder, a Research Office Director and Elsevier on the growing importance of Grand Challenges and how different actors in the research cycle are supporting this subject. After short presentations, the speakers will take part in a round table discussion with the audience. Participants will be given a bespoke analysis of their own institutions strengths around the UN Sustainable Development Goals at the end of the session. - The Quiz, delivered by Emerald/Research Media, Tuesday evening, 18:00- 20:00. Join quiz master John Eggleton from Emerald Publishing’s creative agency business, Research Media, as he leads you through an evening of knowledge-testing fun. Contini George Street | The new Contini George Street menu features dishes such as Salame Calabrese with roasted aubergine, mint, crème fraiche and pistachio crumb; cod poached in cold pressed olive oil with fennel, samphire and chili; and a raw cauliflower, porcini and lemon oil salad with breadcrumbs and Venetian spiced walnuts. - Early Morning Walk and Run: The early morning is often the best time to experience this beautiful city. Come along to our meeting point at 07:00 in the Strathblane Foyer to join other like-minded colleagues for either a walk or run round Edinburgh’s historic streets. Maps for both walk and run options will be available. Note that this activity is self-guided, although we anticipate that delegates will elect to form small groups. An opportunity for early-morning networking! - Inspirational People: taking place from 16:00- 17:30 in the Lammermuir Suite, a series of informal interviews with some of our most interesting and, we think, inspirational delegates. Find out what it takes to be a successful leader, hear from individuals who have changed career, pick up some useful hints and tips on how to make the most of your work-life. Details of our interviewees will be published nearer the time. - The SIG Gatherings: SIGs are ‘special interest groups’, communities who all share similar, sometimes specialist, interests. ARMA UK have a number of SIGs and we have invited some of their leaders to host open ‘round-table’ meetings. SIG Gatherings will be offered by the following Groups: Audit & Compliance, Research Excellence Framework, Open Access & Open Data, Research Impact, Research Development, Arts & Humanities, Metrics and Post-Award Management. These are open to all INORMS delegates and each session runs for 30 minutes, allowing you to attend more than one SIG Gathering, if you would like to! The SIG Gatherings start at 16:00, 16:30 and 17:00, and details of which SIG is running when can be found in the Programme. - Harry Potter Wand-Making Workshop: Expelliamus! INORMS isn’t just about developing your professional knowledge. Take time out of the hectic schedule for something entirely different and enter the world of whittling. Woodsman Paul Cookson will teach you all the skills you need to create your very own Harry Potter wand. And you’ll get to see your colleagues in an entirely new light. Now that’s magic! - The INORMS Choir: The Gala Dinner will open with a one-off performance from The INORMS Choir. If you haven’t heard of this Choir before, that’s because it hasn’t been formed yet! Our challenge is to create a choir, rehearse 2-3 popular numbers and then perform them in the evening. We will provide a professional musical director, Gary Griffiths, and accompanist who will coach and rehearse this rookie choir from 15:30 on the Wednesday evening and get them up to concert-standard all in the space of the afternoon. It can be done! Please note that this is an amateur, community choir and no experience is necessary, although if you are a singer, then we’d love you to get involved. - INORMS Awards and Gala Dinner: places are still available for this evening to remember. Join us at 19:00 in the Strathblane Foyer for a welcome drink and the presentation of the inaugural INORMS 2018 Awards for Excellence in Research Management Leadership. Our piper will then lead you into the Lennox Suite for the second part of the evening. Take your seat, experience the big sound of the INORMS Choir and enjoy a wonderful 3-course dinner presented for you by the award-winning Leith’s Catering. We then push up the tempo with a performance from special guests, the Red Hot Chilli Pipers (https://rhcp.scot/), ‘the most famous bagpipe band on the planet’ before we clear the floors for our ceilidh. Featuring a live band, delegates will experience the infectious fun of a range of highland reels, strathspeys and jigs. No dancing experience and ability required! - The ORBIT Project Community Forum: The ORBIT(ORCID Reducing Burden and Improving Trust) Project is pleased to invite delegates from INORMS 2018 and interested members of the research community to a community forum, collocated with INORMS in Edinburgh. ORBIT is a global collaboration of funders and research infrastructure providers designed to increase the openness and re-usability of information collected and created by research funders. ORBIT represents a real chance to change the way that research information is shared for the better, and this community forum is your chance to find out more about the project and to learn how you can help to shape its future. The forum will take place at 15:30 after the closing sessions of the main conference.
