This Pecha Kucha focuses on the value and place of leadership and professional development in research institutions in these changing times. It will explore why now more than ever; effective leadership is vital at several levels within an institution. Lessons in leadership and learning are applicable whether you are a Research Office Manager or Vice-Chancellor. As researchers nurture the next generation of leaders in their fields of expertise, research operations and professional services must do the same. Related concepts include choosing the most appropriate leadership style and understanding why, as well as how and what we do, is essential for inspirational leadership. It will explore the link between leadership and how the most effectual leaders inspire action by bringing out the best in others. Interrelated notions include how leaders are chosen by their peers in research organisations and if there is such a thing as a ‘natural leader’.
We never stop learning and shared experiences at events such as INORMS can inform effective leadership and build networks. This Pecha Kucha will conclude with a short thought experiment to engage with the audience and encourage personal reflection.
